Wild Girl, by Patricia Reilly Giff


In Wild Girl, Lidie, a twelve-year-old girl from Brazil, goes to live with her father and brother, who moved to New York years before. Lidie must adjust to American schools and the English language while trying to build a family without her mother, who had died. Lidie's father manages a horse-racing stables where Lidie's brother is a jockey. However, they still view Lidie as the child they left in Brazil. Lidie must prove to them how she has changed, and that she responsible enough to control Wild Girl, a young Thoroughbred. She and her father and brother must come together to rebuild their family from its roots.
