In Here Lies the Librarian, Peewee and brother Jake run a repair garage. After a twister passes through rural Rubesburg, Jake and Peewee meet a group of high-class sorority sisters. One of the girls, Irene Ridpath, is astonished to find that Peewee's real name is Eleanor McGrath, and that Peewee is actually a girl. The sisters decide to stay in town when a postion as librarian opens, following a demeaning article in the newspaper of a nearby town. Jake and Peewee help the girls survive Rubesburg and the Kirbys, who run a competitive auto shop in town. But after Peewee and Jake's homemade car is stolen, can they still compete in the famed Hendricks County ten-mile stock car event?
