Fire

Fire is by Kristin Cashore, and it is the companion novel to her first book called Graceling. The two books are very different and only share one character. You do not have to read them in order which is really very unique. Fire takes place in a land called The Dells where monsters of brilliant colors live. Monsters crave monster flesh, are alluringly beautiful and worst of all, control minds. Fire is the last human-monster and the central character in the book. She is a loving girl who refuses to use her powers b/c she doesn't want to abuse them as her father did. This book is the story of Fire and how she accepts who she is and learns to make the best of it. She falls in love along the way!
